KROS project – Knights for Road Safety

Changing approach in European schools to the implementation of road safety programs and initiatives and supporting the professional development of teachers in this area. As part of the project, a strategic partnership of road safety stakeholders is being established with road safety experts, educators and developers of educational applications, local authorities.

Road Traffic Safety Centre at Motor Transport Institute is participating in European Union Erasmus+ Programme called Knights for Road Safety (KROS).  Aim of the KROS project is to bring a change on how road safety programs and initiatives are implemented in schools in Europe, by strengthening the profiles of the teaching profession on road safety issues.

The objectives of the project for open education and innovative practices in a digital era are:

  • Improve teachers’ awareness on road safety issues & strengthen their professional profile
  • Improve teachers’ professional skills enabling them to integrate road safety principles and best practices into their lessons
  • Deploy an innovative online educational Road Safety Platform
  • Develop a network of pilot schools which will act as living labs of the KROS approach
  • Develop and pilot a systematic validation methodology that could identify the effectiveness and efficiency of the intervention
  • Develop a Road Safety Academy

 

Project is carrying out by partners from Greece (R.S.I. Road Safety Institute “Panos Mylonas”), Austria (BundesGymnasium und BundesRealGymnasium Schwechat), Spain CECE (Spanish Confederation of Education &Training centers), Greece (Ellinogermaniki Agogi S.A) and Omega Technology, Ireland (Trinity College Dublin-The University of Dublin, TCD).

Motor Transport Institute in KROS project is involved in most activities as: development of the pedagogical framework on road safety issues in teachers training activities for Road Safety training program. As well as validation of the training program with evaluation & quality control of the project (with Interim and Final Training Program Validation Report), together with development of network of pilot schools for training activities and Road Safety Academy (dissemination of innovative methodological results to school networks & teacher communities with online point of reference for the project results on website, social media).
